Science, Mind, and Psychotherapy

Course Description:

    The art of psychotherapy is practiced against an ever-growing backdrop of research and theory in neuroscience, biology, physics, cognition, complexity, consciousness, mathematics, evolution, and human development.  Monthly study groups delve deeply into a wide variety of current scientific concerns in order to study their implications for our changing world and our practice of psychotherapy.

 

Learning Goals:

 

Ø      Learn the leading contemporary scientific theories of mind, body, self, and consciousness.

Ø      Learn the implications that current theories of the mind have for psychotherapy practice.

Ø     Learn how our psychological views of consciousness, unconsciousness, subjectivity, and relationship are affected by recent research in the physical, social, biological, and neurosciences.

 

General Information: 

 

    This course will be taught in a small group format with several key papers and chapters assigned each month for reading and discussion.  The course will be limited to ten participants and will meet the First Wednesdays from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m.  Tuition for the year (for 12 hours of continuing education credit) is $320 including the non-refundable $80 registration fee with the balance to be paid in three monthly installments of $80.  Save $50 by paying the full tuition in advance by September 15–pay only $270!

 

The Listening Perspectives Study Center is accredited to provide Continuing Education Credits for Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, and Nurses.   The exact number of credits awarded is equal to the number of contact hours for each event and is specified on the Registration Form.
