Attachment, Adoption, and Developmental Issues in Therapy with Individuals and Couples

Course Description:

 

Drawing on more than fifty years of attachment and child development research the focus this year will be on the clinical situation and how various developmental issues, including adoption, present dynamic dilemmas in later work with individuals and couples.

 

Learning Goals:

 

·        To understand how parents/caregivers can promote or disrupt secure attachment.

·        To understand how disruptions of attachment affect child development.

·        To understand how the child’s temperament and reactive behaviors contribute to the attachment relationship.

·        To learn the various ways that adoption and developmental issues can affect the therapy process with individuals and couples. 

·        To learn the importance of affect regulation and “the present moment” in human development. 

 General Information:

 This course will be taught in a small group format with several key papers and chapters assigned each month for reading and discussion.  The course will be limited to ten participants and will meet the fourth Wednesdays from 10:30 to 12:00 p.m.  Tuition for the year (for 12 hours of continuing education credit) is $320 including the non-refundable $80 registration fee with the balance to be paid in three monthly installments of $80.  Save $50 by paying the full tuition in advance by September 15–pay only $270!

 

The Listening Perspectives Study Center is accredited to provide Continuing Education Credits for Psychologists, Marriage and  Family Therapists, Social Workers, and Nurses.   The exact number of credits awarded is equal to the number of contact hours for each event and is specified on the Registration Form.
